It appears four years have passed since I last updated this blog. In that time I’ve been laid off twice, quit a communications job (not the field for me it seems) of my own volition and skittered hither and yon doing freelance work. I’ve also, and more importantly, started writing for TTRPG (tabletop role-playing game) sourcebooks in the interim.
My foray into RPG writing started, as many things do, with my connections to Doctor Who via my podcast, Radio Free Skaro. I reached out to Cubicle7, provided a few writing samples and they were good enough to bring me on board for some sourcebook work for their Doctor Who line. From there I discovered they also publish the Laundry Files RPG, based on the highly entertaining series of novels by Charles Stross.
I’m also working on another project with a different company but that’s currently under NDA, so more on that later.
One of the things aging does to you (completely new insight incoming) is prioritize what you want to do. Though I still do freelance video editing and enjoy the process (see my Fan Video Happy Hour output of years gone by) the burning urge to make movies has waned along with my general levels of energy. I’ve also attended the Can*Con speculative fiction conference in Ottawa for a few years now, and a more lovely and supportive group of writers, editors and other creators you never did meet. All that combined has shifted my focus to the printed word, though given the current state of creative work (in a word: dire) I’m likely not alone.
That’s where this website comes in. About a year ago circumstances aligned to tank the original site and it’s been a slow rebuild to get it back on its feet. I’ve decided to focus on my written work this time out, rather than the blog-centric site I created back when blogs were a thing. I’ll still jot down some bon mots every now and again (perhaps more frequently than every four years!) but I wanted to create a simple showcase of my work for those interested. And light a fire under my behind to keep making stuff!
